Download Music in China.. Legally?

In a project supported and backed by big music industry companies, including “Sony BMG Music Entertainment, EMI Group, Universal Music and the Warner Music Group” Google has been offering free music downloads for the Chinese markets. In light of the recent freedom attacking bills PIPA/SOPA its interesting to see a different facet of the music industry.

Here is a way to use a proxy in your web browser if you want to check the site out. This is for educational purposes only.


1. Choose a proxy for china here – LINK

2. Set your browser to use this new “Proxy Server” IP address. – You don’t have to do this on your regular browser. For example I just downloaded and used the instructions for Opera so I wouldn’t need to mess with my normal browsers.

  • Mozilla Firefox: Tools > Options > Advanced > Settings > Manual proxy configuration.
  • Google Chrome: Options > Under the hood > Network > Change proxy settings > LAN settings > Use a proxy server > Advanced > HTTP.
  • Internet Explorer: Tools > Internet options > Connections > LAN settings > Use a proxy server > Advanced > HTTP.
  • Opera: Tools > Preferences > Advanced > Network.

3. Go to this website. – LINK and search for your favorite artist. Done!
